The original ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ poster was designed by the Ministry of Information in 1939 but not used in the Second World War, and only rediscovered and popularised in the early twenty-first century.

I wonder if another piece of official advice from 1939 – coined to discourage evacuated civil servants from going home for Christmas – could be redeployed in the service of Boris Johnson’s Air Quality Strategy, ‘Clearing the Air’. The advice reads, ‘Is your journey really necessary?’
