Received wisdom has it that doing well at school prepares you to do well at work. But actually, doing well at school means cottoning on to the fact that you’re there for your own good, which might make going to work – which you do for someone else’s – a nasty surprise. Seeing school as somewhere you have to go – ugh! – because society demands it, may be the perfect preparation for the world of work.
